It’s hard to believe that at this time last year, I was embarking on my very first trip abroad. It feels like a lifetime ago! Since I was not in the mood to edit my next batch of honeymoon pictures this week, I’ll share these instead. I like to reminisce on the time that I had pink hair and got paid to fly to The Netherlands and spend three weeks there for work, NBD.
We did not actually stay in Amsterdam per se, but in a small beach town less than an hour away called Noordwijk. From there we went to Rotterdam, The Hague, Haarlem, and (duh) Amsterdam. Not to mention the countless small towns with names I can’t remember and probably couldn’t spell even if I did. It was the adventure of a lifetime, and did I mention I was getting paid?! During my brief stay in the country, I went to Amsterdam 4 times, loving it more and more with each visit.
I’m not above admitting that I partook in the cliché thing most tourists do when visiting Amsterdam: I got stoned. How could I not though? The “pot brownie” that I reluctantly ate half of was of the lemon pound cake variety and delicious. About half an hour after eating said cake, I was innocently eating a non-weed waffle when it hit me. I was, as the kids say, “trippin’ balls.” I just remember thinking, when I was blitzed out of my mind and paranoid AF, that the whole experience would make me laugh in the future. Tragedy + Time = Comedy. I literally thought I was dying, which makes me LOL now. See? That equation is spot on!
Amsterdam is so much more than sex and drugs though. I mean, it’s not exactly rock ‘n roll, but it’s art, culture, and color! Plus, Dutch people are the nicest! An entire family of 6 didn’t even mind when I almost ran them over on my rental bike! Silly American and her lack of balance/basic human life skills!
I was so happy when I accidentally stumbled upon De Kattenkabinet, a cat museum with cat paraphernalia everywhere! And there were at least 5 real life cats roaming around. Ooooh heaven is a place on earth!
AND HOLY CRAP THE AMSTERDAM FLOWER MARKET!!!!!!! I kick myself all the time for not buying the bag of blue peony bulbs.
I enjoyed the Netherlands so much that I’m planning to return on our next Eurotrip so I can show Joel my old stomping grounds. #TheBlumersTakeEurope2018
Okay, I may have sounded a little braggy with this post, but the truth is I missed Joel so much when I was supposed to be enjoying myself in Europe. Ugh. Annoying, right? I had a good time, but nothing can beat when I got home and Joel re-proposed to me at the airport with my engagement ring I had left stateside.
